Africa’s longest fashion traffic on social media, the “Agbada Challenge” got murdered at the hands of Cameroonian fashion designer Shasha Designs this week after her brand released splendid innovative creations of the traditional western African couture.
The Agbada Challenge was first made popular in September 2018 after veteran Nollywood acts, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Nouah and Richard Mofe-Damijo, modeled the agbada- traditional Western African attire to the premiere of the movie Merry Men: Yoruba Demons.
The trio was apparently the first high-profile entertainers to accept a challenge from top Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun- also known as AY- to model outrageous creations of the design to public events. Since then stars such as Falz, Tobi Bakre, Alex Ekubo and TV Host Ebuka- a former Big Brother Africa Star and recognized as king of Agbada- among several others have taken to the challenge which has caught on well in the fashion world.
Now Shasha has gotten involved and ruined it for other African fashion designers, raising the bar high with several surreal styles. The designs are supremely stylish, featuring a blend of indigenous African tastes and the trendiest of contemporary inspirations.
But if you haven’t seen it don’t worry, channelforafrica collected some of the impressive Shasha Designs Agbada collection off social media… And we even added some of our other favorites from the challenge to the list for your viewing pleasure.
