The Kenya@55 Sherehe Festival swept Kenya like an inferno on the night of December 11 at three different locations.
Several stars from and around Meru and Kisumu thrilled spectators at the three-county music festival but it was in Nairobi where the sparks flew loudest after the nation’s a-list entertainers descended massively on the capital on the eve of Jamhuri day- the East African nation’s Swahili slang for the Republic Day holiday.
Large thousands of revelers cheered and chorused as Nameless, Nonini, Redsan, Wyre and other artistes pulled strings at the Nairobi Railway Grounds all through the night before some of the country’s finest at the turntables took over in the wee hours of Wednesday’s holiday morning.
It was a night to celebrate the treasure of Kenyan music and independence as Nairobean natives partied away to contemporary and retro songs originating from country before climaxing the night with fireworks accompanied by joyous and incessant chants of ‘Happy Birthday Kenya’.
And sponsors of the Sherehe Festival, the Kenya Cane beverage, also gave back to society at the concert by awarding two lucky participants of the “Shangilia Hustle ya Kenya” promotion with $1000 cash each to support their businesses.
