channelforafrica.com can confirm that Lerato Khanye, former partner of the late South African rap legend, Hip Hop Pantsula [HHP] has passed. She died on Monday after a long illness, just four weeks after the rapper himself allegedly committed suicide after suffering with depression.
Lerato’s family spokesman, Nkululeko Ncana, confirmed that 38-year old Lerato died on Monday morning, calling it a sudden tragedy even though the family was aware of her long illness. He however declined to confirm the nature of illness or reveal any further details but pleaded with the public to bear with the family and in their period of grief.
HHP and Lerato have a son together, 13 year old Leano Khanye, although they separated four years after his birth in 2009.
