Coke Studio Africa has teased expectations ahead of the anticipated premiere of the 2018 Coke Studio Africa season with a release of a spectacular Christmas playlist fronted by Moji Shortbabaa’s brilliant “12 days of Sidiku” title track.
The new and upcoming season of Coke Studio Africa will launch on TV across Africa from February 2019 after the world’s biggest beverage brand wrapped up all sessions in Kenya this month.
And Kenyan hitmaker Moji Shortbabaa’s innovative touch to a timeless Christmas classic on ”12 days of Sikuku”- now available on Coke Studio Africa YouTube- has proven to be the perfect teaser. The song headlines other impressive yuletide classics from the project’s sophomore Christmas playlist.
The music community is already talking about Moji’s brilliant exploitation of a typical Kenyan Christmas storyline, exciting memories of family reunions, and culture sang in a blend of three languages- Swahili, English and Sheng- to sonically recount a typical Kenyan Christmas experience.
Ahead of the release of “12 Days of Sikuku”, Moji said, “Growing up, Christmas was always a time to link up with the family, get new clothes and make merry but also share with the less fortunate. My lyrics are just a snapshot of my Kenyan Christmas experiences; from what we eat, what we consider as gifts and so forth,”
Touching on what’s more in store, the frisky singer excitedly revealed, “The couple of songs I recorded with my brother Bisrat from Ethiopia are really special and will be massive—we had so much fun! I can’t wait to share it with the rest of the continent.”
Other Coke Studio Africa stars featured on the 2018 Christmas Playlist include African Hip Hop stars Fik Fameica (Uganda) & Laylizzy (Mozambique) in “Deck The Halls” and Skales (Nigeria) in “Joy To The World”. The renditions stay true to the Coke Studio Africa tradition of releasing Christmas hits with an urban pop twist remade by Coke Studio stars drawn across the continent.
The Christmas playlists precede the main event offering a foretaste of featured entertainers on the project.
On the upcoming new season of Coke Studio Africa, Moji will be paired alongside Ethiopian music sensation Bisrat Surafel and produced by leading Kenyan music producer, Majic Mike to showcase the perfect blend of the East African music cocktail.
‘Coke Studio Africa 2019’ will feature over 25 African musicians drawn from several countries across Sub Sahara Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa, among others. Once again, the show will present to lovers of African music: world-class music fusions and original compositions, engineered by some of Africa’s top music producers.
